Mexico Church Build - 3 Weeks Away

Written by

When: March 24-30

What:  a 30 person team from Evangel building three homes in Mexico in partnership with our church down there!  Very exciting!

Team Leaders:  Derek and Julie Waldon, who will be hosting a booth at Mission Vision this weekend.  Stop by and say hi!!

We have raised almost $11,000 to date for the home builds!  This covers all the basics for the houses (building materials).  We'd like to see another $4k come in over the next few weeks for furnishings and little extras like cupboards full of food.  You can give right here on the website, or anytime at Evangel.

This Sunday at 12:30pm we'll be hosting a fund-raising dinner - Taco's in a Bag!  Going to be an awesome time of hanging out and supporting the trip. Hope to see you then!

C.S.A.L.T. (Andy and Sarah Hatfield)

Written by

My wife Sarah and I have recently been accepted into the Christian Surfers Africa Leadership Training (CSALT) course in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa next year. It is a 5 month discipleship leadership training course followed by 5-6 months of internship within the Christian Surfers Organization.

We have been living up here in Fort St John for 3 years now as my wife has patiently supported the start of my aviation career. We have been attending Evangel Chapel for the past 2 years and we have been greatly blessed by the fellowship, mentorship and family atmosphere at Evangel.

We now feel like it is time, and God has been pressing on our hearts to get up and go serve him completely wherever he calls us to be. We had planned to travel around the world and visit different organizations like YWAM and try to connect with different organizations as we went along; however, when we were directed to Christian Surfers Africa and saw that they were offering this course we began praying for what God may have planned! I myself have never had any specific leadership training like what my wife received with YWAM 3 years ago and I felt that this would be very beneficial to be under some solid leadership. The fact that it is directly involved with both of our passions of surfing seemed almost too good to be true! The door has been opened and we will be starting in February 2013.

It is a big step to just drop both our jobs, rent out our house and head into this full charge but it's very exciting none the less. We would not be able to do this without the continued support and prayer from our church and family. I have been and will be looking to Tony for advice and direction and will constantly need God's help, direction and his blanketed protection through prayer. The accountability through our Church will be very humbling and necessary as well.

We have also put together a total sum of the finances required for this trip and realize we will be needing some help in this area. We have both been working hard all summer and will continue to do so in order to save as much as we can before leaving in January 2013.

Our estimated costs for the year are approximately $20,000 and we have currently raised just over half of that amount.  We continue to believe that God will provide the remainder and appreciate your prayers to that end.

We will be keeping everyone updated as we go along.  Check out our facebook page for updates. I will like to send short videos too!

We would greatly appreciate your support and encouragement as we press forward with this!

God's Blessings,
Andy and Sarah Hatfield

Impact Nations Journey of Compassion

Written by

India, January 20th- February 1st, 2013

Impact is heading back to India in just a few months! I joined them last year, and have never been so challenged, impacted and changed then during the 13 days spent in the country.

"For 12 incredible days, you will be on the front lines, demonstrating both the compassion and the power of God to people in desperate need. You will feed and minister to those who live their whole lives on the sidewalks of Vizag. In the villages, you will encounter people who have never heard the name of Jesus. You will pray for people on the streets and in homes. You will be part of a team that brings God’s Kingdom through mobile medical and dental clinics & public health education. Each evening, the village will gather as we tell them about the love of Jesus and pray for the sick. As has happened in every village we have ever entered in India, people will be healed, miracles will happen, and many hearts will turn to Jesus."
Calling all medical volunteers!! Although a medical background is not a requirement for joining this Journey, we are in specific need of a few more medical personnel to run the clinics most efficiently.

Come with us and get ready to be changed, to experience the Kingdom of God, and to pour out and bless so many!

Take a look at our website: www.impactnations.com for more information.

On November 11-17, Evangel will send a team to Vicente Guerrero, Mexico, to build a church.  While the team is rapidly forming even as we speak, there's still opportunity if you or someone you know would like to get in on the action.  The build itself should take roughly 4-5 days, with travel time on top of that.  Cost is approximately $300 for the week, including transportation from San Diego (hello?).  Your flights from here to there are additional.  This will be the trip of a lifetime, as you are used by God to do some serious power-moves for the Kingdom.  Sweet!

I've included here an email I received from Asher Motola, our main liaison for the church build, right after he met with Marharito and Florencia just recently and in lieu of this project.  M & F are the pastors of the congregation we are building a church for and I thought you might be interested in learning a bit more about them and their church.  The picture here is from our last trip down to Mexico, and shows Margarito and Florencia, with myself, Gabe and Darcy Voorhees, and some others from the church.  We're standing in front of the building they now meet in.  The new church will be built just to the right.

Please pass this on, or let me know ASAP if you're interested, or would like more information!!  Click This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to email me.

________

Hola Tony,

Quite the guy, Margarito! I spent over an hour with him today: talking story, praying and crying. We had a blast.

He and Florencia have been married 8 yrs and have 2 children together. His first wife died - he had 7 children with her.

He has known the Lord since '91. A few years before that he was in a migrant worker camp just to the north of Vicente Guerrero. The evangelists from the Mission (Orphanage) had come to do a presentation - movie, message, etc. He listened but it didn't affect him. He then went to Salinas CA to work and was challenged by someone to come to church and listen to the gospel. He did and started to remember what he had heard in the work camp. That night he was radically impacted, gave his heart to the Lord and repented from his ways. He cried for several days - a mixture of joy and conviction.

God has blessed him with the ability to share the scriptures and teach. When he moved to the area he is presently living in, he was approached by some people who asked him to teach.

The lot was given to him by the lady who owns all the land. She was very specific in saying that she wanted the word of God to be preached and taught and that she wanted the people of the area to be reached for Christ.

The church building when built will be registered with the Mexican govt. and will have a regular board with Pres, VP, Sec/Tres.

Everything has been donated, the land, the building materials, the wiring for electricity, the electricity....the outhouse. He has never asked for anything. His labor has been in prayer.

He has a passion to see God's word spread in his area. He needs a bigger space into which to invite the neighborhood. This is the only church in the area - on his side of the highway. He thinks that the area has few believers; no more that 15 - 20%.

He is part of an accountability group - 5 or 6 churches all located in the San Quentin valley - within 15 - 20 miles of each other. As pastors, they meet together to pray, support and encourage one another.

Thanks for asking me to do this. I was blessed to spend time with him.

Got Chechnya on my Mind

Written by

This morning I read (or rather looked at) one of my favourite blogs, the Big Picture.  And ran smack into the heart of God for the people in this remote, war-ravaged place called Chechnya.  What does a guy do with this stuff?  Each photo seemed to put flesh and blood on a people that up to now have remained distant from me.  They are real.  And they desperately need the message of the Gospel.  And I feel God's heart-beat.

What many people don't know (if they've even heard of Chechnya), is that there is a massive Islamic movement taking place there right now.  It's a revival of sorts, and it's going crazy, especially among young people.  Mosques are being erected everywhere, almost daily, and the masses are quickly being subjugated under a religion that puts women to the place of second class citizenship, and promotes the idea of somehow earning your way into God's favour (which is not going to happen and impossibly frustrating).

In the capital of Chechnya, a place called Grozny, there is one church, a Russian Orthodox church that is on it's last legs.  Did you get that?  One church.  I found a missionary there, or rather was there, guy wrote a book about it, but he's gone onto Tehran now.

I gotta stop looking at pictures like this, they stir the heart too much.  A little while ago I stumbled upon an album on Sierra Leone.  Keep it distant from my heart please.  Amazing photos of the people and country don't help!

So now what?  I can pray for sure, but who will go?  As far as I can tell, you can't get a flight into Chechnya.  It's still considered very dangerous and still very war-torn.  Maybe next time we're in Ukraine we'll make the 1300km trek cross country and see if we can sneak in a back door somewhere?  I find myself these days gravitating to places where there is no one, and Chechnya is one of the many countries out there with little to no Christ-centered witness.  And I'm also learning Russian (the main language), so who knows.

Mexico Blog #6 - Two Great Men

Written by

Of all the pictures we snapped over the week in Vicente Gurerro, this one ranks among my favourite because of the two central subjects of the photo:

Asher Motola
A Jewish guy who got saved during the Jesus movement in Mexico City, a teacher by trader, and missionary by calling.
For the last few decades he and his wife Suzanne have given their lives to the extension of the Kingdom and spread of the Gospel into Mexico.  He was our guide, interpreter, counsellor, gopher, problem-solver, resource-finder, commander, and leader for the week.  As we walked into the most incredible moments of connectedness and intimate fellowship with the people, it was because Asher had prepared the way.  Almost everywhere we went he would greet people warmly and they would return the same.  Unquestionably, he carries God's heart for the people of the Baja.  You can see this like the sun in a blue sky when you look at the picture above as he stands beside Margharito.  The guy absolutely radiates the love of Jesus for this people.

Margharito
I don't even know his last name and I can only remember his first name because it's almost identical to the name of a popular drink.
This native mexican (Oaxacan) standing at about 5 feet, is a giant of the faith.  With a passion to see the Kingdom spread in his country, he looks at the desert and sees a promised land, at a veritable hell-hole and sees paradise.  These are the marks of a true visionary.  Anyone can foresee blessing in a land of plenty, but to look into the wilderness and make a pronouncement of life takes a well-rooted, Spirit-saturated person.  Margharito is such a man.  He has single-handedly started a church that reaches to the poorest of the poor in Vicente Gurerro.  With an indomitable spirit, he charges the giants of the land like substance abuse, poverty, and hopelessness.  In spite of difficulty and lack of resources, he radiates a joy and peace that is absolutely irresistible.  I felt like I was standing beside a pillar in the faith when he asked me to share in his church.  Though they meet in a building that has a dirt floor and is made of a ramshackle of materials (including an old garage door, and an outhouse made of four sheets of tin roofing that are badly rusted and filled with holes), this small church of about 20 families, living in abject poverty, feels like a cathedral on the grandest scale.
