Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30 ESV)

Jesus brings nourishment to our souls.

Although there are many things we walk through, are led into and called into by the Spirit of the Lord, and many of which purposely stretch our capacity and intentionally take us past our point of strength and into our weakness, ("My power is made perfect in weakness" 2 Cor. 12:9) the posture of our inner man is meant to remain in a posture of rest.

"Come to me all who labour… you will find rest for your souls… take my yoke upon you. For my burden is light. It's important to understand heaven's definition of rest. Rest isn't necessarily the absence of activity; it's the absence of control. I believe this is the rest that is continuously available for every believer that chooses to surrender their burdens, desires, dreams, and fears at the feet of Jesus and takes upon "His yoke."

What is the yoke of Jesus?

Jesus said, "The Son only does what He sees the Father doing" (John 5:19). The "yoke" or burden of Jesus is to SURRENDER His will (see again Luke 22:24) and posture Himself under the Father.

Contrary to popular belief, rest is not found at the end of striving nor in the state of being idle. But instead, in the "letting go."

Holy Spirit, thank you for giving me heavenly rest as I take upon the yoke of Jesus. Reveal to me the areas of my life that I am in control of, clinging to, and have not laid upon the altar. As I continue to let go control over my life, I receive the gift of rest that you promise. I trust you, Lord.
