The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper... (1 Kings 19:11-12 NIV)

Be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10 ESV)

Stillness. Revival. Do those words go together? Do you think "stillness" when you think "revival"?

Neither do I.

When I think of revival, I think of power and excitement. I think of the "mighty move of God." I think of "signs and wonders"! That's something to get our bones stirring and our passion ignited!

But what exactly is the definition of revival? It's "the act or instant of being revived" or "the state of being revived."

Hmm…

Now my first thought in response to that definition is more along the lines of a frosty walk as the Creator paints a colourful sunset across the sky, and I feel as though I am breathing in His very presence. Or it makes me think of quiet, intimate moments with the Lord in the middle of the night when I've finally got my toddler to sleep, and I reach out for his steady strength. And, incredibly, he responds.

I realize that Jesus is in the quiet. He is in the intimate moments. And there is revival to be found there. It's a powerful beginning. That moment that is quieter than a whisper, as we say to the Lord in the deep places of our hearts, "I am yours, do in me what you will." Who knows where that quiet moment... that quiet word will take us.

Today ask the Lord: How do you want to be present in my day today? How can I be more aware of you in my "still" moments?
